The barrier island runs the length of the county — Atlantic to the east, the Indian River Lagoon to the west, rarely more than a mile between them. Across the causeways, the mainland communities trade frontage for space, schools, and proximity to the aerospace corridor.

Each community below reads differently in person than it does on a map. These pages are written to explain the difference.

South to north along the island, then west across the causeways. Drive times are approximate and shown for orientation only.
