A coast defined by water on both sides.
The barrier island runs the length of the county — Atlantic to the east, the Indian River Lagoon to the west, rarely more than a mile between them. Across the causeways, the mainland communities trade frontage for space, schools, and proximity to the aerospace corridor.
Each community below reads differently in person than it does on a map. These pages are written to explain the difference.
Indialantic
A walkable centre on the island — restaurants, the causeway, and a mix of restored mid-century houses and new construction on both the ocean and river sides.
Merritt Island
Between the Indian and Banana rivers: canal systems with direct access, larger parcels, and the county's most practical boating addresses.
